Natalie Farwell: has completed her assignment as Youth Activities Coordinator, effective July 31. She has very successfully served our congregation in this position for 12 years, which has included coordinating four national gatherings, attending several Confirmation camps, and many other activities with our youth. As a church body, we are forever grateful to Natalie for her commitment to serving the Lord with enthusiasm and for her special leadership ability in helping our young people walk in their faith. When you see her, be sure to thank her for her time and dedication to the youth of our church. Great job, Natalie!

Jeff Bernhardt: has been hired as the new Youth Activities Coordinator, effective August 1. Jeff has served in a variety of youth leadership roles, including teaching Upper Deck, assisting with Confirmation class and attending Confirmation camp, and being a chaperone for the St. Paul group at the national youth gathering in Houston in 2018. He has also coached soccer at various levels for over 20 years and is in his second year of coaching high school golf. As you are able, please welcome Jeff into this position and provide him your prayers and support as he grows into this important role in our congregation. Welcome, Jeff!

Blood Drive: Orion VFW Post #143 & Legion Post #225 will host a blood drive on Wednesday, August 21 from 3:00 – 6:30 PM at the Legion Hall. To schedule an appointment, please call Darrel Muhleman at 309-781-9896.

Flower chart for 2019: Has been posted in the narthex. You may sign up to provide flowers for one or two vases for our worship services. Flowers may be given in honor or memory of loved ones. The cost of flowers is $20 per vase. Please pay for your flowers at the time you sign up to provide them. There is a box for this purpose located directly beneath the flower sign-up chart. If you want to pay by cash, please enclose your payment in an envelope with your name on it, so our secretary knows who has made the payment. There are a lot of dates open for flowers.

St. Paul’s 150th Anniversary: We will be planning St. Paul’s 150 th Anniversary on Sunday, April 26, 2020. The Committee for the 150th Anniversary of the church has been formed. We’ve got lots of ideas and would like more. If you can, join us on Wednesday, August 28th at 7 PM at church to share thoughts and start firming up our thoughts. Any Swedish speakers out there? Any Swedish artifacts you’d be willing to share for an event during the anniversary year? Share your ideas with any of these ladies: Janet Boney, Wilma Carroll, Teresa Carlson, Lori Dhabalt, Jeannine Filler, Judy Frenell, Diane Gainey, Gloria Grafton, Jane Helke, Joyce Hepner, or Mary Lindgren.

“God’s Work-Our Hands”: Sunday, August 25. This is our opportunity to celebrate who are as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America – one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor. There will be service projects for all ages with no experience necessary! There will be a brief worship/commissioning service to start the day (9AM), and a potluck meal together to follow our service projects. Some of the projects we have tackled in the past include; painting Orion fire hydrants, trimming bushes, picking up trash, making blankets, sending cards, making a banner, cleaning nursery toys, and washing windows around our church and our community. Please mark your calendars and plan to join us!

St. Paul’s Annual Rummage Sale: During Fall Fest weekend, on Saturday, August 31. Donations of items for the sale may be brought to church anytime. There are designated Sunday School classrooms downstairs where items may be placed. There will be separate rooms for clothing, kitchen items, children’s items (toys, games, books, etc.), linens, holiday decorations, and furniture (and all large items that will be sold outside under the canopy.) Please contact the church office with any questions.

Orion Schools Breakfast Program: With school beginning in a couple of weeks, our congregation would like to once again supply the Orion school district with breakfast items for those youth and children who are in need. Items suggested are; individual cereal boxes, pop-tarts, rice krispy bars, granola bars, and fruit cups. A basket is available in the courtyard hallway for your donations. Thank you for your support!

Volunteers Needed (both men & women): Fall Festival weekend, August 30 – August 31. There are sign-up sheets in the courtyard hallway for the annual Orion Area Churches Association ice cream social on Friday, August 30 (6:15 – 8:15 PM), the Fall Festival food tent (6:15 – 8:15 PM), also on Friday, August 30, and our annual rummage sale on Saturday, August 31. Please sign-up to help out wherever you can.

Bike or Hike 4 Sight: Saturday, August 31. Family event! 1- or 2-mile ride or walk. Register at Love Park in the Shelter at 7:30 AM. Event starts at 8:00 AM. Registration Forms are available at Bank Orion, Casey’s and Orion Schools. Cost is $5.00 per person. All proceeds will benefit vision and hearing impaired in Orion School District. Rally Sunday: Sunday, September 8, at 9:30 AM. Sunday School teachers will be installed and 3rd graders will receive their bibles! It will be an exciting service, so come and join us! Guys in Ties will be joining us after worship. We will be serving coffee cake, doughnuts, and some beverages between church and Guys in Ties. Guys in Ties will take place in the Chapel. Hope to see you there.

Sunday, September 15th: First day of Sunday School at 9:00 AM!! Please also mark your calendar as a reminder that we will go back to TWO worship services, 8:00 AM and 10:30 AM.

COUNCIL SEAT OPEN: For anyone interested in being on Church Council, we are looking for someone to replace Jeff Bernhardt. Seat would expire in 2021. We will be filling this position on a “first come, first serve” basis. If you have any questions, please see Rod Ward.
